Who We Are

Liminal Wisdom was actualized by Krista Kirkpatrick-Hatch while she traversed her own liminal journey into entrepreneurship.

Krista has extensive lived experience with a variety of losses, the heaviest of all being her parents during her formative years as a young adult. She revisited those losses into motherhood, an experience that opened the door to becoming the support she wish she had in postpartum: a postpartum doula. It was in serving parents in the postpartum period that she realized grief and loss is everywhere, but not always recognized.

At Liminal Wisdom, Krista marries her lived experiences, passion for caregiving, and art as a healing outlet to create a unique approach to pivotal and hopeful futures with her clients.

Walking and Holding Sacred Space With You

Grief is messy and so hard. Sometimes, your friends, colleauges, and loved ones have the best of intentions to support you but may inadvertently say something dismissive, insensitive… or nothing at all. It takes gentle care to support someone grieving a loss. In some situations, that loss is not so obvious or unfortunately not regarded as a ‘real loss.’ Let us walk with you during these sensitive days to help take some of that weight off.

Losing a mom creates a deep vacancy in your heart and soul that cannot be filled. Raising kids as a mother without your own mother to guide you is a difficult and lonely experience. There's often so many experiences and moments-- especially in those early months and years-- that you yearn to share with your mom, situations you want to consult her on, or times where you just need a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.

Parenthood in the wake of losing your mother can be very isolating, as many other parents don't understand what you're feeling or experiencing. But you are not alone.

Why We Do What We Doula

Growing a family can bring a mixture of emotions: excitement, uncertainty, stress, hope… At Liminal Wisdom, we believe that every family deserves individualized, compassionate, evidence-based support during pregnancy, birth, and the tender weeks that follow. Doula support does not replace loved ones; instead, it provides a beautiful compliment to the support systems already in place.

  • In 2022, I was connected with Krista through the You Are Not Alone program, which connected individuals experiencing grief with a grief mentor. From the very beginning, Krista was the perfect person for me. Her own lived experience of loss created an immediate understanding and connection that I could not have found anywhere else. I will be forever grateful that she walked alongside me through one of the darkest and most painful roads of my life. Krista supported me as I navigated both the anticipatory grief and the eventual loss of my mother. My mother was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, and within just one month of her diagnosis, she passed away. The swiftness and devastation of that experience left me lost as I was trying to process and make the most of the little time we had left together. I needed someone to catch me while I felt like falling, help me up when I couldn’t be strong, encourage me to take the next step. That person was Krista. The death of one's mother can be one of the greatest losses a daughter can experience. While the loss itself is profoundly painful, navigating that loss can feel even more difficult when you feel alone. Having Krista beside me was an essential part of my own healing. She offered something that was different from the support of family and friends. Although my loved ones cared deeply for me, Krista understood grief in a way that only someone who has experienced the profound loss can. She understood because she had been there. She understood the complexity of grief, the duality of feelings, the unpredictability of it, and how deeply the loss of a mother can change you. Krista listens with the kindest ear and the warmest heart. She creates a space where it is safe to talk about the hardest things—to say the things that may feel too painful, too complicated, or too difficult to say to anyone else. She never tried to rush my grief or make it better. Instead, she met me exactly where I was. She cried with me. She held space for my pain and at different phases of my life. She helped me understand that there was no right or wrong way to grieve and that I did not need to have everything figured out. In moments when I felt lost, she helped me feel less alone. Krista is, and continues to be, my soft place to land. Although the You Are Not Alone program no longer exists, I am incredibly grateful that it brought Krista into my life. I am grateful for her mentorship, her wisdom, her expertise, and most of all, for the genuine care she showed me during one of the most difficult experiences of my life.

  • Krista was our postpartum Doula for intermittent overnight support for our second daughter. We found Krista to be a very caring and warm person and she took excellent care of our daughter during the challenging first 8 weeks after birth. She quickly became our go-to Doula. She was willing to do 10 hr overnight shifts - which was very helpful in taking of our older one in the mornings. I cannot recommend Krista enough! We would hire her in a heartbeat.

  • Krista was great with our 10 month old and 3 year old! We felt at ease going out for a night and leaving her to do bedtime. It is so hard to find someone you feel comfortable leaving the bedtime routine with and she killed it! Thanks for letting us enjoy our date nights!

  • Krista is truly one of a kind, and we will never forget her. She cared for our baby with so much love, tenderness, and genuine concern, not only for him, but for our entire family during his first five weeks of life. Her presence brought a sense of calm and reassurance into our home during such a transformative time. She supported me tremendously with breastfeeding, offering helpful tips and encouragement. She was always attentive to our baby’s needs, thoughtfully restocking items in the nursery and making sure everything was in place. Beyond baby care, she nourished us with delicious, home-cooked meals that were essential for my recovery and for sustaining breastfeeding. She prepared snacks and breakfasts so I would always have something ready in the fridge and she cooks beautifully. Krista also helped with household tasks like folding and washing laundry, which made a world of difference. She truly made everything feel lighter during this period of adjustment. More than that, she went above and beyond by offering emotional support through conversations, motivation, and constant encouragement. I was able to sleep peacefully knowing our baby was not only safe, but deeply loved and well cared for. We truly could not have had anyone better to care for our little one. We are forever grateful. 🤍

  • I can’t say enough good things about Krista! She was such an incredible support during the newborn stage and quickly became someone I completely trusted with my baby. She was always punctual, dependable, and brought such a calm, warm presence into our home. The biggest gift she gave me was sleep. I could truly relax and rest knowing my baby was being cared for by someone so attentive and experienced. I rarely heard my newborn cry or fuss during the night because Krista was always one step ahead, making sure all of my baby’s needs were met. Every morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and reassured that my baby had been loved and cared for all night long. Her kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made such a difference during a challenging time. I would wholeheartedly recommend Krista to any family looking for a doula—you will be so grateful to have her support!

  • Krista is incredibly knowledgeable, and her years of research and community work have been invaluable to me. She helps me set realistic goals through coaching, gain new perspectives, and navigate different challenges with greater confidence. She is kind, compassionate, and a wonderful listener. Her support has made me feel heard, understood, and encouraged throughout the coaching process.

  • Krista supported us after our baby was born, with overnight postpartum doula services. She was so kind and knowledgeable, and she was a lifesaver. When you're sleep deprived, getting a full night's sleep and waking up to fresh banana bread is game changing.
